Telemasca 3

Third experiment. Going back to loosey-goosey style. Getting the hang of this stuff...sorta.

Telemasca 2

Another quick painting of Telemasca. This time I started w/ flats n' airbrushes before adding painty brushstrokes. Still piddling around with makin' a style.

Telemasca

This is Telemasca, my new Dragon Age character. Still attempting to create a digital painting style, and this is just one of the ones that doesn't look completely awful. Its super-rough, but I kinda dig it like that.

Moghedian

Moghedian, my first character from Dragon Age Origins. Its a super-quick study, and for whatever reason I can't access the bioware screencaps, so I had to make to with the small portrait image I had, which really sucked. But yeah, I went with doe-eyes and pouty lips, which made her look kind of sad and vulnerable most of the time--an effect I really liked. BUT, alas, during the "love" scene with Alistair she just kinda looked depressed, more so than happy. Whoops. I also gave her the second skin condition thing (on the slider that lets you change how old your character looks) because I wanted her to kinda look like she doesn't get a lot of sleep--up studying magic or whatever. I also went with the braided bun style because she's got kind of a no-nonsense personality, and having her hair down would get in the way. And the tattoos...well, they just looked cool. Made bluish to go along with the old druidic-style tats. Hopefully I'll be able to do more in detail studies of her once I can figure out how to view the screencaps on my online profile =)

Ok, so I decided to practice caricatures today, since I usually fail at capturing likeness. Some of them came out better than others....but I think I did a good job overall. Tried to limit it to no more than 10 minutes per.

From top left to right: Tim Gunn, Me, Neil Patrick Harris (that looks nothing like him, haha), Kevin Smith, Lady Gaga, Penn Jillette (prolly the best one) and Sarah Silverman

Lemme know what ya'll think! XD

Lady Gaga

So I was totally inspired by the Lady Gaga music video "bad romance". I'm totally obsessed with fashion, especially the crazy avant guarde looks that people come up with, so I decided to do an illustration of Lady Gaga in that crazy chandalier dress she wears as sort of an art excercise. While there's billions of things wrong with her face/body, I really dig the way that her outfit/hat-thingie are coming out, so I'm thinking I'll finish it after all. Its always good to practice these things, right? =)

WoW characters

These're my World of Warcraft characters--Telemasca (the blue Draenai) and Landslayer (the pink blood elf). Fiddling around with a different style, drawn nude cuz I didn't feel like drawin' clothes.

Crest and finished smodart

So first off, the finished smodart can be checked out over here. If, for whatever crazy reason you should want said art as a wallpaper, you may find a higher res version over here.

Now then, the next project I've been working on is a commission I've had for a great while of a friend's family crest. He's of Chinese ancestry (hence the chinese dragon), and super into heraldry (as the cresting is called), so here it is:

It's 18x22, and was inked traditionally on hot press watercolor paper (pretty much the largest, inkable paper I have). I'm pretty happy with how it looks, and once he approves the inks then I'll start coloring it, probably in painter since he says he wants it to look oil painterly.

Smodart

So Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier of the Smodcast are having this art show at this gallery in LA and there's a contest for fans of the Smod to do an "art of smodcast". Here's the entry I'm working on:

It's kind of a smattering of all things smodcast, and done digitally because I was working my way through the archives while I was brainstorming ideas, and doing it in Photoshop seemed the best thing to do so I could cut/paste thumbnails, move 'em around, resize, etc. The things I've "Inked" so far are Schekkie, the Nazi-engineered weiner dog, the newspaper that's going to have a headline reading "Bryan Johnson: Crazed Shit-Eater", Scott Mosier as "The Scarlet Shrieker", the Harry Potter "Forgeticus" charm, and Kevin Smith and the parasite that takes over his cock and demands blood. Yep, lots of interesting things talked about in smodcast =D

Omfg, this thing is taking forever. Holy crap. I don't think I've ever done anything with so many damn characters before x.x

Flipside cover final!

Eek! The final version! I am so psyched with how it came out, especially Maytag (the blond girl). To view more of the lineart by the utterly amazing Brion Foulke, check out Flipside--a totally awesome webcomic.

WIP: Flipside Cover

So to bolster my colorist portfolio, I'm playing around with coloring things done by different artists. This time, it's the chapter cover for the webcomic Flipside--a GREAT comic that everyone should check out, even if some parts are nsfw. In any event, here's a sneak:

I am sooo psyched with how this is looking so far! So cute! Since pretty much everything in the foreground is really warm and saturated, I decided to balance it with that light blue for the background. So far I'm kinda digging it, but I haven't made up my mind entirely quite yet. In any event, it's fun playing around with a more "painted" style! ^^

Continuation of my Mid-level city. There's so many things I forgot to include in the sketch that I find myself creating specifically for the digital version. As a result I can only work on this thing a little at a time because there's soooooo much stuff and the computer is a tedius thing to ink with (now gimme a brush and a micron, and then we're talkin). However, it would've ben nearly impossible to ink with this level of detail traditionally, even with a lightbox, as not only is the sketch insanely messy, but the details would kill my poor eyes (thankfull, Photoshop has a zoom tool!) So yeah, for your enjoyment, some details:

Sort of a work in progress of Nico from Runaways. Wanted to practice a painting style, so this one was 100% digital. Sadly, everything but the face and some of the hair is really rough, but maybe one day I'll finish it!Hair+Face detail.

Work in progress

Work in progress cityscape (sort of) that I'm working on for my concept art portfolio. I decided to digitally ink this one since the original sketch is sooo messy I'd destroy the paper trying to erase the pencil lines. Sadly, this is only like, a small corner of it...

Emma Frost

Emma Frost, from X-men, as a gift to my friend Caleb. I actually painted this one! See, I can do traditional things...sort of! Watercolor + Guache+Micron on Cardstock.

New Blog!

Sooooo, here's where I'm thinking I'm going to post upcoming projects, convention appearances, and other useful mumbo-jumbo that I might think of later. Since I tend to update the Mystic Revolution site more than anything else, I added MR's RSS feed to the side so you can stay updated on what's going on (because I'm not entirely sure how often I can be updating... ). In any event, I hope to post my drawing process on here someday so people can see exactly how it is I work, since that's a question I get lots of times at cons.
